GM Birding City Region Project supporting #30DaysWild!

The “30 Days Wild!” annual nature challenge is hosted by The Wildlife Trust and starts on Monday 1st June 2020.  The challenge wants you to do one wild thing a day throughout the whole month of June for your health, wellbeing and for the planet. That’s 30 simple, fun and exciting Random Acts of Wildness, which according to a new review from The Wildlife Trusts, has a lasting feel-good factor from simple daily contact with nature.

During last year’s “30 Days Wild”, the GMBCR project recorded a total of 100 bird species and also helped to promote and organise the 2019 Manchester Festival of Nature, led by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and many other regional partners.

This year, the GMBCR will be looking at the amazing wildlife and habitats that we have in Greater Manchester during the 30 days, they will be looking to promote “The Perfect Ten”, these are ten bird species they have selected to represent the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester.

“The Perfect Ten” bird species are ten birds that they think every Greater Manchester resident and visitor should see in their lifetime.  To help you on your way, the GMBCR have linked images to each bird and borough.

The Perfect Ten in the beautiful North:

1/ Bolton – Kingfisher

2/ Bury – Little Egret

3/ Manchester – Rose-ringed Parakeet

4/ Oldham – Tawny Owl

5/ Rochdale – Peregrine

6/ Salford – Mute Swan

7/ Stockport – Mandarin

8/ Tameside – Red Grouse
