Warm Homes - Anne Lord

GMCA central heating scheme lowering energy bills

The Greater Manchester Warm Homes Fund is offering low income and vulnerable households that are heated with costly old room heaters and open fires the chance to have a new central heating system fitted for free. GMCA, working with the local authorities across Greater Manchester, has secured £1.8 million from a national fund which has been established by National Grid and is administered by Affordable Warmth Solutions.

Households of all tenures are eligible, including owner-occupiers, social tenants and private tenants. In total the GMCA scheme should benefit around 500 households, with a proportion of these receiving the latest air source heat pump technology.

Among those who have already benefited from the scheme is Anne Lord, of Shaw (pictured), who said:

“I’ve lived in my house for 12 years and one of the main reasons I’d never had central heating fitted was due to the cost. I’d had to use an electric fire. Warm Homes has been brilliant for me and I’m looking forward to being warm this winter.”

The scheme is running throughout 2018-19 but is operating on a first-come, first-served basis and will close to new applications once all the funds have been allocated. You can find out more at or by calling 0800 538 5737.
