The Census is a survey that happens every ten years and provides the most accurate estimate all the people and households in England and Wales.
It includes questions about your age, work, health, education, household size and ethnicity. And, for the first time, there will be a question about whether you have served in the armed forces, as well as voluntary questions for those aged 16 and over about sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Census will give provide fresh insight and information for central and local government, charities and academics to help decide how services are planned and funded in the city-region. This could include things like doctors’ surgeries, schools, housing or new bus routes.
The census is unique. There’s simply nothing else that gives so much detail about us and the society we live in. It provides an evidence base to make sounds decisions, and by taking part, you’ll be helping make sure you and your community get the services needed now and in the future.
How to take part
For the first time ever, we will be able to complete the Census online. Households across Greater Manchester will receive information through their letterbox about how to do this. This will include a unique access code, allowing you to complete the questionnaire on your computer, phone or tablet.
