The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) is pleased to announce the launch of the GM Low Carbon Heating Industry Group this October, a collaborative initiative bringing together manufacturers, installers, and innovators from across the low carbon heating industry.
This group is the first of its kind for Greater Manchester, designed to accelerate the roll-out of low carbon heating solutions and support the city-region’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2038. Building on the success of earlier partnerships—such as with Daikin and Octopus Energy, which have already led to significant upskilling and market creation—the group will align with the GMCA’s mission-based approach, fostering innovation and collaboration at an unprecedented scale.
As devolution expands, this initiative offers private sector organisations a unique opportunity to understand and benefit from working at a local, devolved level. Membership terms will require participation in quarterly meetings, contributions to joint projects, and playing an active role in delivering the GM Five-Year Environment Plan’s low carbon heating targets.
On 17th June the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, signed a new collaboration agreement with Daikin to further Daikin’s work in the city-region, building on a long-term relationship to grow the low carbon heating. As part of this collaboration agreement, Daikin was designated the first member and Chair of the newly launched Greater Manchester (GM) Low Carbon Heating Industry Group, in an industry and Combined Authority first.
