Greater Manchester has been recognised as one of the top-performing cities in the world for environmental transparency and action, earning a place on the 2024 CDP Cities A List.

The city region is one of just 112 cities globally and among a small number in the UK to receive the top score from CDP, a leading international non-profit that tracks climate data from cities, companies and governments.

The A List recognises cities that are demonstrating leadership by transparently disclosing environmental data and taking ambitious steps to manage climate risks and reduce emissions.

With climate hazards such as flooding, heatwaves and drought becoming more severe and frequent, the demand for reliable, data-driven decision-making has never been greater. By disclosing through the CDP-ICLEI Track system, Greater Manchester is helping to drive collaboration between public bodies and businesses, while unlocking new opportunities for climate finance and innovation.

Publishing environmental data helps local authorities better understand risks, build climate resilience, and support sustainable economic growth. The CDP platform also gives cities the tools they need to align with private sector expectations, improve access to funding, and attract investment into green projects.

Greater Manchester joins cities from every continent in taking action to shape an Earth-positive future through open, transparent reporting and evidence-based planning.
