Hydrogen has the potential to become a leading source of energy — it can be used for heating, powering vehicles and industrial processes. As it’s cleaner and more efficient than fossil fuels, it could have a major role to play in reaching Net Zero environmental targets.
The global focus for clean technologies has resulted in academic institutions, governments and industry partners coming together to form clusters to support the development of UK hydrogen economy.
Led by Manchester Metropolitans University and in partnership with the University of Manchester, the Royce Institute, and the National Physical Laboratory, the Greater Manchester Electrochemical Hydrogen cluster (GMEHC) is an innovation accelerator programme, funded by Innovate UK.
It aims to speed up the development and adoption of electrochemical hydrogen technology in businesses across Greater Manchester.
By supporting Manchester’s ambitions to be net zero by 2038, GMEHC allows businesses to access university research, expertise, and facilities to understand and explore clean, efficient hydrogen technologies.
There is massive investment globally committing to green energy sources such as hydrogen. This is an opportunity for SMEs to be at the forefront of the revolution by joining Manchester Mets fully funded introduction into how it can be applied to businesses.
These fully funded workshops are designed to help any SME who’s interested in exploring the potential of green fuel sources, and understand how hydrogen and fuel cell technologies can be integrated into their operations.
Could these workshops be for your business? If any of the below questions apply to you, then these funded workshops are for you:
- Have you heard about hydrogen but have no idea what it is/means?
- Could your business benefit from a feasibility study?
- Do you have an interest in putting a fuel cell in something?
- Do you need to charge batteries in remote locations?
- Do you want to understand the possible implications for your sector? (e.g. heating)
- Do you have excess renewable energy and need a large-scale storage solution?
- Are you involved in heavy transport applications, where batteries will be too heavy?
- Are you involved in biomass and looking for an alternative to combustion?
- Do you need a quieter option over generators?
- Do you operate equipment in closed environments (no fume issues)?
- Do you need a system that doesn’t degrade over time (e.g. emergency power)?
Why should your business be involved in GMEHC?
- Understand the possibilities of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies
- Take action on what climate change means for your business
- Contribute to putting Greater Manchester at the core of internally leading research and development
- Learn from industry professionals
- A guided tour of the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre labs
- Experiment with practical demonstrations, and build your own car powered by hydrogen
- Expand your professional circle and test ideas
- Attend our complimentary networking lunch
When and where?
The three half day workshops take place throughout October in our Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre.
