The Future Furnishings initiative is thrilled to announce an exciting exhibition taking place on June 15th at Market Place Bolton.
This Saturday, the 15th June is the launch event for the Future Furnishings exhibition. The event runs until Wednesday 3rd July and the public will have access to a range of exciting workshops, drop in sessions and the opportunity to view the creative outputs of the Textiles and Surface Design and Digital Content Creation students from the University of Bolton.
Exhibition Highlights
DIY Workshops: Hands-on sessions where participants can learn various upcycling techniques and skills directly from our talented team.
Showcase of Upcycled Objects: Textiles and Surface Design students have worked in partnership with local community members to renew, reuse and redesign textiles and material goods from their homes, providing a second life for materials that may no longer be used or worn and therefore limiting the impact on the environment.
This collaboration has been captured by Digital Content Creation students. A series of photographs and videos tell the story of the 5 week project and provide further opportunities to engage in discussions around economic and environmental sustainability.
This exhibition is not just about celebrating what we’ve accomplished so far, but also about looking forward to future workshops and community engagement activities. By measuring the success and impact of this event, we aim to plan more workshops that will continue to promote sustainability, creativity, and community involvement.
Leanne Lewis, Lecturer at the University of Bolton,
“We are incredibly excited to share the creative outputs from this project with the wider community of Bolton – students and participants have demonstrated their commitment to the key issues that we face around textiles waste and the negative impacts on the environment, locally and globally, and this has made the whole project really worthwhile. Students and participants feel confident in sharing their experience and their knowledge and that is thrilling!”
