“It is vital to save energy and in doing so help the environment and drive down our energy bills and it is our award winners and nominees who are at the sharp end setting out to achieve this. They have often been the unsung heroes of our industry and our regional and national awards events give them the voice and recognition they deserve.” Spokesperson, Energy Efficiency Awards

Last Thursday’s Energy Efficiency Awards saw GMCA win “Regional Council or Local Authority Body of the Year”, Stockport Council win “Regional Large Scale Project (>250K) of the Year” and Rochdale Council recognised as highly commended for their “Regional Small Scale Project (<250K) of the Year” submission.

GMCA won “Regional Council or Local Authority Body of the Year” for the following energy efficiency schemes delivered by its Low Carbon Team or through its innovative Retrofit Portal:

  • Energy Company Obligation Scheme (ECO4)
  • Local Authority Flexible Eligibility Scheme (LA Flex)
  • Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)
  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
  • Your Home Better (YHB)
  • Local Energy Advice Demonstrator (LEAD)
  • Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery Scheme (GHG LAD)
  • Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF)
  • Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS)

The award rewards an ‘exceptional local authority’ that has shown a true commitment to promoting energy efficiency within its region. It recognises the efforts of the local authority and its service to its local community on residential, industrial, or commercial properties. This is a great boost to the GM Retrofit Portal, which brings together all the retrofit and decarbonisation offers available to Greater Manchester residents.

GMCA also supported Stockport Council with the feasibility, business case, ERDF funding, and procurement through GMCA’s Go Neutral framework of their Grand Central Solar PV project which won “Regional Large Scale Project (>250K) of the Year”. This award rewards one exceptional project in the region where energy efficiency measures of more than £250,000 have been installed, recognising the efforts of all those involved locally in delivering a successful large scale energy saving project, while maintaining excellent customer service that demonstrates a high standard of quality workmanship throughout the project.

Rounding-off good news from the event, GMCA supported Rochdale Council with the feasibility, business case, ERDF funding, and procurement through GMCA’s Go Neutral framework of their Roof Mounted Solar PV project which was Highly Commended for “Regional Small Scale Project (<250K) of the Year”.

Regional winners automatically go through to the national awards later this year, taking place in October, fingers crossed for the Greater Manchester regional winners!
