The Invasive Riverside Plants in Greater Manchester report outlines the results of surveys of the River Irwell catchment in 2022 and the River Tame catchment in 2023. The information in the report shows the extent of the invasive plants Giant Hogweed, Japanese Knotweed, and Himalayan Balsam within the two catchments; the first time a catchment level view of the issue of invasive riverside plants has been produced within Greater Manchester.

The report is designed to help landowners and environmental managers to plan effective and co-ordinated control strategies for these invasive plants which can cause harm to the river environment as well as people and the economy. A case study is also provided which outlines how the survey findings were used to develop an effective control programme for Bradshaw Brook in the Irwell catchment.
