Residents, businesses, policy makers and community groups are being invited to take part in the Greater Manchester Green Summit, which takes place on Monday 17 October at The Lowry, Salford Quays.

The summit will be the fifth since it was established in 2018 by Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.

This year, the Green Summit will seek input from business, policymakers, local communities and industry on how the city region can accelerate action against its five-year environment plan, rising to the key challenges facing it from implementing new policy and embracing future innovations to industry adaptation at pace and individual lifestyle changes, all of which will be vital as we push to deliver a carbon neutral Greater Manchester by 2038.

The Green Summit will feature interactive sessions based around key themes including the natural environment, transport, low carbon, sustainable consumption & production and sustainable lifestyles, with speakers, exhibitors and delegates coming together to consider how we can all better collaborate on innovative solutions.

The event will also see a focus on engaging young people around climate change. This will see a youth-specific event held during the Green Summit, opened by the Mayor and hosted by the Manchester Metropolitan University.

This year we are delighted to be welcoming Bruntwood, SSE Energy Solutions, United Utilities, Carlton Power and Manchester Metropolitan University as our headline sponsors. The support shown by our headline sponsors and our other official partners is essential to realising the vision of the Green Summit, allowing us to bring together more of the city-region’s businesses, policy makers and communities to collaborate on making Greater Manchester greener and fairer.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham said: “The Green Summit has grown and developed year-on-year and this leadership and collective responsibility is a big reason why Manchester is quickly becoming the UK’s leading green city.

“This year, people are worried about how they will afford to heat and power their homes or pay for basics such as food or travel. Our focus at this year’s summit must on be delivering the right solutions – such as retrofitting homes so they are more energy efficient and making public transport more affordable – which not only make Greater Manchester a greener place, but will make life fairer and more affordable for our people too.”

The full event programme and speakers will be announced soon at GM Green Summit 2022 – GM Green City.
